DOTHAN, AL- The Alabama National Guard takes pride in its involvement in the community, and through providing free activities to our youth. One of the ways the Alabama National Guard accomplishes this is through mobile marketing and bringing fun games to community festivals.
The Alabama National Guard has once again partnered with the Tri-State BBQ Festival to bring some additional fun and excitement to the 7th annual festival. At the event, held on Friday April 13 and Saturday April 14 at the Houston County Farm Center in Dothan, the Guard is expected to bring two very popular activities.
The first activity is the wildly poplar Sumo Wrestling activity. In this game, people of all ages can don a “sumo suit” and then attempt to wrestle an opponent. However, the bulkiness of the suit can make it a challenge!

Sgt. Carens of the Dothan chapter stated, “We are requesting our most popular assets, to include the sumo wrestling suits and the pedal cars. We think these will be a big draw and great fun at the BBQ Festival.”
The pedal cars that Sgt. Carens mentioned are human-powered little racers that navigate a designed course. There may be cones, obstacles or other challenges for participants. They will race against each other on the course, which is expected to be at least 100′, if not longer. People of all ages can participate.
Festival organizers are working currently on accommodating a space large enough for all the Alabama National Guard activities, and are pleased to have the Guard involved again in community events and activities. All games and activities offered by the National Guard are free for participants.
